A core foundation of Bluegum Health's model of care is tailored decompression programs for Veterans and First Responders. High tempo occupations involve known hazards, which need to be mitigated to support maintaining functional mental health. Programs are designed to be rural and bush based, to allow a circuit breaker by providing structured time and space for individuals to unwind, process stress, and reset emotionally.
Each program is tailored to groups of no more than 8 pax sharing vocational DNA, supported by a team of experienced and creative clinicians and facilitators. All our staff have relevant lived experience as veterans, or in first responder roles. Depending on weather and group composition, core activities on an initial phase program include:
Day 1 (PM): Commencing at a firm base, each individual will undergo a bespoke mental health audit while integrating into group roles. Afternoon travel to bush location.
Day 2: Bush based activities driving skills development and education around resilience building and self-monitoring of distress.
Day 3: Return to firm base for both individual and group reflection.
Day 4: Wrap up and overview of experiences.
All group decompression activities are 'hands on' and range from mindfulness sessions and guided relaxation to nature hikes. By necessity, the bush site invokes a digital detox to help reduce anxiety, improve mood, and enhance overall emotional resilience. By allowing the brain and body to shift out of a constant state of alertness, decompression activities lower cortisol levels, support better sleep, and foster a sense of inner calm.
